How All Our Children Works
Share This PageAll Our Children supports local public schools in two ways: (1) through churches volunteering forty hours a year for five years and through (2) by building bridges with community organizations that complement hands-on volunteering with the capacity for wider systemic change. In the New York metro area, the initiative also partners with Learning Leaders to connect parishes and schools.
The presence of a caring adult in a young person's life increases self-esteem, strengthens relationships with peers and adults, and improves academic performance and attendance. A key element of the initiative's success is the commitment by churches to forty hours a year for five years to support local public schools. We believe partnerships between churches and schools will generate increased resources and more engagement, which will lead to the realization of positive developmental outcomes (educational, emotional, social, and physical) for youth. This ultimately results in a generation of leaders who are healthy, empathetic, and productive.
“We always encourage communities to get involved in supplementing education after school, and we applaud the effort of the Episcopal Diocese to reinforce the work being done in city public schools.”William Havemann,
NYC Department of Education spokesman
“With care and time, we've realized we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of these young people.” The Rev. Maria Santiviago
