What is the All Our Children Initiative?
Share This PageImagine a community where all children are empowered with the skills and self confidence to succeed, a community where adults reach out to inspire youth and help them develop into a whole child.
In 2007, the Episcopal Diocese of New York and Trinity Wall Street began the All Our Children initiative to encourage churches to partner with public schools in their communities. All Our Children is designed specifically as a civic outreach initiative rather than a religious program, with church staff and volunteers matching their talents with a school's particular needs.
In July 2009, the General Convention of the Episcopal Church endorsed the All Our Children effort, calling on every congregation to partner with a local public school and urging every Episcopalian to give 40 hours a year in service back to their local schools.
The All Our Children initiative encourages partnerships, builds bridges in communities and strengthens public schools by educating the whole child.
When state and local education budgets shrink, the kinds of programs that ensure a well-rounded education for students are often cut. Without proper resources, schools understandably struggle to improve test scores and graduation rates. One of the ways to fill this gap is by support from organizations that are an integral part of the community.
